Venice Biennale
In conjunction with presentations by gallery artists during the Venice Biennale, this Viewing Room highlights a selection of their available works.
Francis Alÿs presents new works in the Iraq Pavilion that explore the role of the artist at the frontline of war. Karla Black's site-specific installation is on view in the Arsenale as part of the Biennale's main exhibition VIVA ARTE VIVA. Carol Bove debuts a group of steel sculptures in the Swiss Pavilion that respond to the legacy of Alberto Giacometti. Readings of On Kawara’s monumental One Million Years are taking place during the first three months of the Biennale in the Oratorio di San Ludovico, a sixteenth century church acoustically designed for the spoken word. The readings are organized by Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, England.
In addition, works by Michaël Borremans, Isa Genzken, and Wolfgang Tillmans are on view in group exhibitions throughout the city.
Poolside Magic, Chris Ofili’s solo exhibition at Victoria Miro, presents a vibrant new suite of works on paper, and follows his inclusion in the 56th Venice Biennale All The World's Futures in 2015.
