          KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature
          The New York Botanical Garden
          Through October 31, 2021

A landmark exhibition at The New York Botanical Garden spread across its 250-acre landscape, KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature celebrates Yayoi Kusama’s lifelong fascination with the natural world and features monumental polka-dotted sculptures of flowers and pumpkins, signature mirrored environments and organic forms, and a greenhouse installation that will be transformed over the course of the presentation by visitors.

The artist also debuts a new Infinity Mirrored Room experience that responds to the varying light throughout the day and seasons. This career-spanning presentation coincided with the first comprehensive retrospective of Kusama’s work in Germany, which closed August 15, 2021 at Gropius Bau, Berlin. Tate Modern, London, is presenting Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirror Rooms through June 12, 2022.

A large tentacled red and blue statue with a yellow sun-like face and white polka dots on its tentacles seems to hover above a reflecting pool, its image mirrored in the water. A mix of trees can be seen in the background.
A massive pumpkin sculpture stylized as though it were dancing. Its body is orange with black polka dots, while its slightly twisted stem is black with orange polka dots. Its underside is solid black.
