Walter Price’s first solo museum show in the United States, this exhibition comprised a suite of four paintings made between 2017 and 2018. Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, Price served four years in the Navy aboard the USS Whidbey Island, an experience that enabled him to pursue his art education on the GI Bill. The rigors of military service directly inform Price’s daily practice of painting. Often rendered at an intimate and domestic scale, his dreamlike compositions traverse the border between abstraction and figuration. In the works presented at MoMA PS1, Price has begun to work on a larger scale while retaining his interest both in figuration and in the expressionistic possibilities of color.
