Barbara Kruger among T Magazine’s The Greats

 magazine collaborated with the organization 

 to publish four different covers featuring voting stickers by forty-eight artists—including gallery artist 

Kruger’s sticker is presented alongside designs by David Hammons, Christine Sun Kim, Glenn Ligon, and nine other artists. Each issue will have a corresponding sticker sheet inside, allowing voters to wear a new sticker every day through November 3rd.

Also this week, beginning October 29, a new work by Kruger will be exhibited for the first time in 

, a group exhibition of new work by artists from the gallery’s program at our 537 West 20th Street location in New York.

Published on the occasion of the artist's 

, on view at David Zwirner New York through October 17, 2020, 

 is the latest monograph dedicated to the striking new work of the internationally acclaimed abstract painter.

The book features new paintings highlighting the artist’s ongoing exploration of the interaction of shape, color, texture, and light. Painted over long periods of time, these works are the result of a deliberative process guided by a deep understanding of color and the properties of paint. Frecon has been exploring the issues of horizontality and verticality, asymmetrical balances, and interacting arrangements of color for over five decades. The result is an ongoing dialogue that yields new and surprising paintings at every turn.

Frecon’s knowledge of color is deeply rooted in art history; her selection of color brings with it an understanding of the scientific properties of pigments as well as their use by Renaissance painters. Esteemed poet and critic John Yau explores this inspiration in his illuminating essay, in which he teases out the connections between these bold abstract works and historic figurative paintings. Highlighting Frecon’s interest in these paintings for their form and color rather than their narrative, Yau offers a new and intriguing way of looking at both present and past.

is Aperture’s latest print publication featuring the artist’s multilayered photography series.

 photographed dancers performing in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Los Angeles, and combined the images with landscapes and architecture. The book presents sixty color plates that reveal the artist’s ongoing experimentation with color photography.

In her accompanying essay, Lisa Hostetler, curator of photographs at the George Eastman Museum, writes, “Welling’s true subject emerges as the photographic enterprise itself—its genres, materials, processes, practices, and history.”
