Celebrating Noah Davis

 announced today the winners of their inaugural Noah Davis Prize. Named for the visionary artist and curator who co-founded the museum, the prize honors three curators who are transforming their respective fields and broadening audiences for culture.

The winners are Candice Hopkins for 

Art for a New Understanding: Native Voices, 1950s to Now

Judson Dance Theater: The Work is Never Done

. The prize, which is presented in partnership with the 

, endows $25,000 to each winner. The Underground Museum will also present a curatorial symposium featuring the award recipients in Spring 2022.

Co-founded in 2012 by 

 and his wife, the artist Karon Davis, The Underground Museum is a non-profit arts and culture space dedicated to exhibitions and cultural programming. Based in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Museum offers free classes to the local community, as well as food distribution and events for adults, children, and families in its space and garden. The Museum will reopen in January 2022 with an exhibition of paintings spanning Davis’s career, organized by Helen Molesworth.

The Underground Museum Announces Winners of the Inaugural Noah Davis Prize

Join Ebecho Muslimova and Katy Hessel, art historian, independent curator & host of The Great Women Artists, for a virtual exhibition walkthrough of 

, the artist's first solo presentation in London.

 is on view at David Zwirner London Tuesday, November 23 through December 23, 2021.

Katy Hessel is an independent curator, broadcaster, and art historian based in London, UK, and runs 

, an Instagram account that has celebrated women artists on a daily basis since 2015. She’s written extensively on the subject of women artists and has lectured for Intelligence Squared, The National Gallery, Courtauld, Tate, Cambridge University, Pallant House Gallery, and more.

Ebecho Muslimova and Katy Hessel Virtual Exhibition Walkthrough

, the gallery’s new publisher of original prints by contemporary artists, launching today with three new print editions by Marcel Dzama. Available now on 

, Dzama's prints are in edition of 75 and were printed by master printer Maurice Sanchez of Derriere L’Etoile Studios in collaboration with the artist.

“I love the tradition of printmaking, how it changed the world and the ability to make multiples but still be an original work. Some of my favorite works of art were prints made by Dürer and Goya,” said Marcel Dzama. Printmaking has a rich global history steeped in innovation and collaboration, with techniques that have been refined for centuries to achieve visual effects unattainable in any other medium. Artists today continue to explore printmaking’s distinct qualities, working alongside experts in the field to realize technically and conceptually ambitious works of art.

Utopia Editions will participate in this tradition of experimentation, providing artists opportunities to work with master printmakers across the globe and enabling a broader audience to collect museum-quality work by leading artists.

Following the Dzama prints, Utopia Editions will release lithographs by Neo Rauch and Rosa Loy in December 2021, and a silkscreen edition by Ebecho Muslimova in early 2022. Additional artists who will release prints with Utopia Editions include Katherine Bernhardt, Cy Gavin, Raymond Pettibon, Cynthia Talmadge, and Luc Tuymans, among others.

Children’s activities will be guided by the 

 artist-educators in residence—Ciana Malchione, Tati Nguyen, and Frank Traynor.

Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA) unites children and artists to create and share ambitious works of art with their communities and the world. Born out of an artist’s SoHo studio in 1988, the museum has built a living collection of over 2,000 works by children from over fifty countries dating back nearly a century, while connecting young New Yorkers to art and artists. In 2021 CMA’s Executive Director Seth Cameron established 

, the first digital commons specifically designed for child-artist-centered learning.

Additionally, David Zwirner Books will be hosting a holiday pop-up sale at our 525 W 19th Street location from 9 AM–6 PM.
