October 2022

The Josef Albers Museum Quadrat Bottrop in Germany will open its new wing on October 19, 2022, with the special exhibition Josef Albers: Homage to the Square.  The exhibition in the new wing will run through February 26, 2023. Featuring numerous major loans from museums abroad, the exhibition of around 90 paintings honors Josef Albers, who was born in Bottrop in 1888, as one of the 20th century's most influential artists. The paintings are complemented by notable works by Paul Cézanne, Giorgio Morandi, Ad Reinhardt and Donald Judd—artists whose work is closely connected with that of Albers.  Designed by the acclaimed Zurich-based Gigon/Guyer architects, the new space enables the Albers Museum, which opened in 1976, to present special exhibitions alongside its permanent collection of works by Josef Albers.  Cover image: Josef Albers, Homage to the Square: Black Setting, 1951.
