March 16–September 29, 2019 In celebration of its 20th anniversary, S.M.A.K. presented The Collection (I): Highlights for a Future (2019). Inspired partly by the architecture of the S.M.A.K. building, the exhibition was divided into seven sub-presentations, each of which spotlit current trends within the art world and society, illustrating them with works from the museum’s collection. The culmination of diverse works demonstrates the impossibility of capturing social reality and the art world in one overarching linear storyline or concept. Visitors immersed themselves in the labyrinth of contemporary art and discovered for themselves possible connections between the various artworks from the museum’s collection. Learn more at S.M.A.K.
