Chernobyl Redux (2023) revisits Diana Thater’s earlier 2011 work on the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukraine. The installation presents previously unseen footage of the abandoned city of Prypiat and its wildlife, particularly the endangered Przewalski’s horse, that Thater captured during her stay in the zone. By contrasting the decaying infrastructure with the thriving nature, Thater explores the impact of industrial disaster on the environment and the potential for renewal. This updated version includes new footage and deepens her exploration of themes of time and space in art.
