L'Âge Atomique

Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris

October 10, 2024–February 9, 2025

On Kawara, Barbara Kruger, Kayoi Kusama, Raymond Pettibon, Sigmar Polke, Diana Thater, and Luc Tuymans are included in L'Âge Atomique at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris.

Curated by Julia Garimorth, chief Curator, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and Maria Stavrinaki, professor, Université Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, this major exhibition gathers over 250 works to reexamine the history of modernity in the 20th century through the imaginary world of the atom.

Visitors are invited to explore artistic representations sparked by the scientific discovery of the atom and its applications, in particular the nuclear bomb, whose devastating consequences changed the fate of humanity.

The exhibition also includes rare & previously unseen documentation, shown for the first time in a French museum. Dealing with a subject now more topical than ever, L'Âge Atomique is in keeping with the museum's desire to reflect contemporary cultural and social concerns in its programming.
